Phuthuma Nathi has delivered an impressive 30% annual return over 18 years

Phuthuma Nathi stands as one of the shining examples of true empowerment in South Africa, delivering impressive returns to black shareholders for an extraordinary 18 consecutive years!

Since its inception in 2006, Phuthuma Nathi has distributed dividends every single year, making a powerful impact on thousands of lives. From domestic helpers, gardeners, stokvels, small businesses to professionals. Phuthuma Nathi’s shareholder base reflects the diversity of the people it was built to empower.

Holding 25% of MultiChoice South Africa, Phuthuma Nathi has received a remarkable R19.1 billion in dividends since 2006. This year alone, over 75,000 black shareholders benefitted from a R1.375 billion, receiving R20.37 per share (R16.30 after dividend tax). This is not just financial growth, it is real value flowing directly to everyday South Africans, supporting families, education and small businesses.

However, not all shareholders have claimed their dividends. Thousands are missing out because their contact or bank details haven’t been updated, and in some cases, dividends remain unclaimed by the estates of deceased shareholders.

Right now, Phuthuma Nathi is on a mission to reconnect with 18,000 shareholders with unclaimed dividends totalling more than R240 million. Since 2020, Phuthuma Nathi has been running a far-reaching media campaign to find shareholders who haven’t received dividends from 2006 to 2024, to encourage them to claim their overdue funds. While many shareholders have claimed, a substantial amount remains uncollected.

Could you be one of the 18,000 shareholders with unclaimed dividends?

If you are a shareholder or a family member of a deceased shareholder, don’t let this chance slip away. Reach out to the Phuthuma Nathi Call Centre from Monday to Friday, between 07:00 to 18:00 (excluding weekends and public holidays) at 086 011 6226 or via email at phuthumanathi@singularservices.co.za.

To claim your dividends, you’ll need to complete the FICA verification process by providing identification, bank details, and other required documents. Once verified, payments are typically processed within 3 to 5 working days. Together with Singular Systems, Phuthuma Nathi ensures that every dividend reaches its rightful owner, safeguarding each shareholder’s identity and banking information.

MultiChoice Black Empowerment Dividends

Imagine investing just R4,000 in Phuthuma Nathi shares back in 2006. By 2024, that investment would have grown to a staggering R42,400 in share value and generated over R65,256 in dividends, representing an incredible annual return of 30% - far outpacing typical market returns.

Here’s how Phuthuma Nathi’s 18-year growth breaks down:

  • Shares bought in 2006: If an investor bought 400 Phuthuma Nathi shares @ R10 per share, the total investment would have been R4 000.
  • Share value today: Based on a share price of R106, those same shares were worth R42 400 on 22 August 2024. (The share price declined this year due to challenging market conditions. Like other shares, the Phuthuma Nathi share price goes through fluctuations and is affected by market forces).
  • Dividends received to date: Adding up all the dividends over time, the investor would have received a total of R65 256 in dividends after tax (including the dividend to be paid in September 2024).
  • Total return on investment: Combining the gain in the share price and the dividends over time represents a total return of R 107 656 – which is 27 times the initial investment.
